Bhubaneswar: The capital city has secured a spot among the top ten cleanest cities in India, according to a recent survey by the central government.
In the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, the city achieved 9th place among urban areas with populations ranging from 300,000 to 1 million.
Last year, Bhubaneswar was ranked 34th. Additionally, the towns of Aska and Chikiti were recognized with Swachh Shehar awards in their respective population categories.
Aska was honored in the segment for populations between 20,000 and 50,000, while Chikiti received accolades in the under 20,000 category.
Both towns proudly claimed the second position nationally in their categories. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was acknowledged as the 'Promising Swachh Shehar of Odisha' by the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, during the award ceremony held in New Delhi on Thursday.
The awards for Aska and Chikiti were presented by the President of India.
The event was attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, along with senior officials and representatives from various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), including BMC Mayor Sulochana Das, BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Usha Padhee.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his congratulations to the Housing & Urban Development department for this achievement, stating, “The national recognition of Aska, Chikiti, and BMC reflects the department’s unwavering efforts, strong leadership, and community involvement.
I extend my sincere gratitude to all officers, ULB representatives, sanitation workers, and citizens who contributed to this success.
Let us keep collaborating to create a clean and prosperous Odisha,” the Chief Minister shared on X.
